Manchester City are likely to part ways with some of their star members
Manchester City have enjoyed a successful campaign in the recently completed season. Their journey has seen them achieve a brace in the form of the Premier League title and the Carabao Cup. Speaking of disappointments, there was only one couple. The UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup.
Their quadruple hopes were hurt by a resilient Chelsea side. Both losses were hard for City fans to digest and were therefore probably the only ‘downsides’ of a very decent season.
Looking ahead, the coming season will now bring more challenges to the team. Pep Guardiola will now have to develop new strategies for his team. Some of them will include bringing in a few new faces and will likely see few departures as well.
The Sky Blues have already said goodbye to their two stars, Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia. There is a good chance that the club will see more exits in the coming months. In my previous post, I made it clear how the team could benefit from the presence of a solid No.9. Now let’s see the possible departures:
Who released #Raheem Sterling
The England forward has been heavily linked with a move away from Etihad this summer. Now, why would a famous winger like Sterling even consider leaving the club? The reason is simple. He lost his place on the side of the holders.
Manchester City rising star Phil Foden grabbed his opportunity with both hands and his place in the XI is likely to stay.
This season, the former Liverpool striker has often been seen warming the benches. The lack of minutes under Guardiola may now be the main reason for this likely exit. In terms of performance, the City superstar has been average on the pitch and has often been criticized for his inconsistent outings.
Manchester Evening News has now reported that Arsenal are the favorites to land the striker this summer and may move to north London soon before the new season starts in August.
Who is out #Aymeric Laporte
Premier League holders have always been on the lookout for talented defenders. In the summer of 2018, the Sky Blues made a successful acquisition in the form of Aymeric Laporte. Honestly, he’s been brilliant every time he’s been called.
Unfortunately, the Frenchman experienced few stops during his stay in England. Injury issues saw him miss the regular first-team action. With John Stones and Ruben Dias having more priority in the back line, the defender struggled to cement a place with the first team.
Sources in Spain suggest Manchester City would be open from Laporte this summer. Barcelona have shown interest in the defender and may sign the player soon in the coming weeks.
Who came out #Fernandinho
His contract is due to expire later this month and is therefore expected to leave Etihad this summer. The Brazilian has been a solid figure in this City side and has been a staunch servant of the club during his time in the Premier League.
The 36-year-old has shown flexibility to operate in both midfield and defensive roles and has therefore been a key member of the Sky Blues for a substantial period of time.
So far, there has been no official statement from the club regarding a possible renewal. This means that a possible exit is definitely on the cards for the former Shakhtar midfielder and therefore the veteran will not be part of City’s squad next season.
